Music Education - Martha Edwards
Physical Education - Tony Thomas

Martha Edwards teaches music at both the Carolina School for Inquiry
and the Center for Inquiry in Richland School District Two.  She holds
music degrees from Johns Hopkins University, the University of
Cincinnati and the University of Wisconsin.  In addition to her work
teaching music, she is also a professional French Horn player, having
performed throughout the United States as well as Europe and Mexico.
Most recently she has performed with the South Carolina Philharmonic,
the Charleston Symphony and the Charlotte Symphony.  She also
maintains a private studio teaching both horn and piano lessons.
CORE Tech Fitness Program
Conducted intermittently during class.  All teachers & children participate.
Tony Thomas is a recently retired Physical Education teacher.   Mr. Thomas earned his B.S. degree in Health & Physical Education from SC State University, and his Masters degree in Education from Cambridge College.   He spent 30 years teaching on all levels; elementary, middle, high, and three years on the college level.   Mr. Thomas was nominated "Teacher of the Year" in 1984 at W.A. Perry Middle School.  Mr. Thomas and his wife Brenda opened a martial arts training facility called "Tony Thomas Family Karate, Inc." in 1997 to teach self defense skills.   Most importantly their goal is to help students develop and improve in the areas of self-discipline, self control, focus, concentration, balance, coordination, and many other traits to help them achieve success.  He is also a member of the Black Belt Hall of Fame.

Spanish - Joy Glover
Joy Glover has her Masters of Education in Languages from the College of Charleston. She has served as an ESOL Educator in Sumter School District 17 since 2004. Prior to assuming this position she taught Spanish classes at both the high school and middle school levels for four years. Her certifications include: SC ESOL Teacher Certification, SC Spanish Teacher Certification, and an Intermediate and Advanced Spanish Certificate from the Universidad de Granada in Granda, Spain. Most recently she has taught at the Univeristy of South Carolina in the Upward Bound program. Joy serves as the director of Bridges Educational Services which provides one-on-one tutoring, enrichment, and after school programs for students in various subjects by certified teachers.

Art Education - Willie Mae Simuel
<
Mrs. Simuel attended that University of South Carolina here in Columbia and has earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Studio Art.  This is her first year teaching at Carolina School for Inquiry.  In her spare time she enjoys spending time with her husband, two children and extended family.  They enjoy traveling, visiting museums and sports activities.  Simuels’s hobbies include reading and art .  She is delighted begin her career at such a wonderful institution for learning.
